Chapter Growth At LTC

By Bro. Joe Outly, Worcester Chapter (MA)

Throughout the week at Leadership Training Conference, the chapter in WOKQ cabin (also known as Chapter D and Satiledif) showed just how true brotherhood is created and kept: through select teamwork challenges, late nights of bonding, and sometimes even yelling.

Personally, I got tired of yelling, “Hey You!” or “Guy” at people who clearly have names during our athletic events. On the second day, I told myself that if I didn’t at least know everyone’s name in the camp by the end of the week, that I had not learned anything about true brotherhood.

I have learned almost everyone’s name in the LTC program, and I have made bonds that one can keep for a lifetime. We have not only learned each others names, but we learned each other’s stories and personalities. The day I walked into my cabin, I had no intention of becoming a Master Councilor or getting to know anyone as well as I know my friends in school, but alas, it happened. I learned everything I could about where people were from, what they do, how old they are, and even whether or not they like salt on their eggs.

I got to know people and communicated so well with others that people knew my name before I knew theirs, making even ground to start a friendship that can and will prevail through the power of DeMolay.
